The one thousand-dollar note was first issued in 1977 by the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, 1979 by the Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong), and 1994 by the Bank of China. Proof issues were made by the Oriental Bank Corporation and the Bank of Hindustan, China and Japan during the 1860s. No other bank that issued banknotes in Hong Kong issued this denomination. The banknotes dimensions were first 100 mm by 173 mm for the HSBC and 100 mm by 170 mm for the Chartered Bank which was standardised to 81.5 by 163 for HSBC and the Bank of China and to 82 by 165 for the Chartered Bank.
